I had a dream last night that I was in Pleasantville, dressed in pouffy skirt, high heels, bullet bra and cooking pancakes for breakfast before I mopped the floors, did laundry and ironing, all of course in high heels. BAM! that woke me up, panting, clutching my chest. Thank GOODNESS that was a dream. Or was it? Do I live in some parallel universe where a doppleganger is still hanging out in the 1950s?
Nice sentiments, and I will admit that it is a better message than “We are all sinners and the Devil is about to devour us for eating that cream puff” nonsense. But still, it rankled. I think the god Chronos makes more sense. His sentiment is, “Be true to yourself, whoever that might be at the time.”
t the wonders of the universe? I would love to go to Space Camp, for example. My husband is the same way, infinitely curious and interested in the world. The last time we went to San Diego’s Balboa Park museums, we ventured into a science room full of gadgets, “please touch me” thingies, videos, games, and more. We were having a great time! For a while we were the only ones there, but about 30 minutes later, we looked up at the now full room and discovered that we were the tallest people there! Well there were others, but they were patiently looking on as their offspring enjoyed the wonders of the universe. Laughing about it, we continued to enjoy the fun.
…. My life, on the other hand has been one drastic change after another. During childhood our family moved constantly from city to city during childhood. This gave me a rather unique perspective on life. I rarely made close friends and never became attached to whatever home we lived in….
When I was 15, I lost my virginity to a boy I married three years later. It was in the back of his mother’s 1947 Buick, parked in her garage. Hormones, can’t live with them, can’t live without them. At 15, hormones ruled my world.
After that, even though I had some metaphysical beliefs, I wasn’t completely convinced that there wouldn’t be a horrible fate awaiting me after I died because I had sex with my boyfriend, so I married him. BIG mistake! He was a temperamental child with no ambition, little education, and spiritual beliefs that were completely opposite from mine. But, hey, hormones ruled. I was a teenager and the future was some nebulous hazy thing that didn’t feel real. Live for today.
